SUNJU PATEL BIOGRAPHY

Sunju Patel is the founder and CEO of The Montford Group, a real estate development and consulting firm in Charleston, South Carolina. Sunju has over 20 years of experience in the real estate industry in investments, acquisitions, and dispositions, along with horizontal and vertical development. As a Managing Member, Sunju takes charge in investment opportunities, strategic planning, and cultivating long lasting relationships with hospitality brands, banking institutions, and globalization within the business community.

Since founding The Montford Group in 2017, Sunju’s portfolio consists of commercial real estate and investments that include 40,000 SF of office and retail space in downtown Charleston, a real estate investment in India, an industrial fund investment, and over 600 hotel keys of existing and ground-up development that include 131 keys at the Moxy by Marriott, 191 keys at the Thompson by Hyatt, and more. Sunju is also a member of the Board of Governors at the College of Charleston School of Business and serves on the Accommodation Tax Committee for the City of Charleston.

Originally from India, Sunju came to the College of Charleston in 1999 and began working at his uncle’s hotel. Since that time, he has found immense success through hard work and determination, and his experience starting at the bottom and working his way up has kept him humble and focused on the right thing at all times. Sunju’s business motto has always read: “Dream big, work hard, stay focused, and surround yourself with good people”.

Besides being an impeccable dresser and a fan of single malt scotch, Sunju is also an avid cricket player and plays for a semi-professional cricket club, the Charleston-based U.S. Tigers Cricket Club, where he has served as team captain. When he’s not working, Sunju loves to travel, do anything outdoors, and spend time with friends and his daughter, Simi.
